You can't blink in this town without seeing an advert, there is literally one on every surface. I just sat on some hypnotists face, it was on the loo seat in a casino. I think he's very good, I'm sure one of the kids I'd just dropped off at the pool was clucking like a chicken when I flushed. I've found my run-away favourite ad though and the only one that has moved me to actually go and see something, it was...
"Come to the gun show - fully automatic weapons available to rent. Tourists welcome!"
It's hard to decide what word in that ad is the most terrifying, personally, I'd go for "rent". At last, it's nice to see they're catering for the violent psycho looking to rampage on a budget.
It reminds me of the Virginia Tech tragedy and the day after when I saw an interview on CNN. It was with senator somebody from the great state of, well, denial as it turns out. The phrase that stuck out was
"This is not just an American tragedy. Sadly, there are confused young men like this all over the world."
Well yes, but if a student in Warwick Uni or Trinity college strikes out with the ladies all that happens is he gets drunk, sits in his room for a month listening to too much Radiohead and writes some bad poetry. Sure, the world gets some tortuous rhyming couplets but nobody dies. It amazes me that Americans see no link between people having a lot of guns and consequently, a lot of people getting shot.
Nevertheless, it's off to the gunshow I go - at least if I do snap there and go postal it'll be unique amongst killing sprees. My spree will actually take out some gun totting idiots instead of innocent passers-by.
